My name is Firaol, and I am originally from Ethiopia, where I grew up in a family of five with a strong appreciation for education, community, and helping others. Nursing has always been a passion of mine. Witnessing the dedication of healthcare professionals back in Ethiopia, along with my experiences here in the United States, has further strengthened my desire to pursue nursing and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

While attending school in Ethiopia, I was actively involved in a student led volunteer and community outreach group, where I served as both a leader and a member. Through fundraising and volunteer activities, we worked to support people in our local communities. These experiences strengthened my sense of responsibility, compassion and commitment to helping others.

Moving to the United States marked an important new chapter in my life. Although adjusting to a new environment came with challenges, these experiences helped me grow, become more independent and appreciate different perspectives. Plus Graduating from college here in US was an important achievement that motivated me to continue my education

I am truly honored and grateful to be one of the recipients of the Billi Odegaard Scholarship.

This opportunity means a great deal to me, as education has always been an important part of my personal and professional growth.

Through my personal and professional experiences, I have had the opportunity to meet people from different backgrounds and walks of life. These interactions have taught me the importance of understanding different perspectives, building meaningful relationships and treating others with kindness and respect. I have learned that even the smallest gestures of compassion can leave a lasting impact.

My educational journey has not always been easy. Balancing work, personal responsibilities and school has required sacrifices, but it has also taught me resilience, discipline and determination. I believe that success is not only about what we accomplish for ourselves but also about the difference we make in the lives of others. As I continue my education, I hope to use my knowledge and experiences to give back to my community and inspire others to pursue their dreams.

Outside of work and school, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, connecting with others, and finding opportunities to learn something new.

Receiving the Billi Odegaard Scholarship has lifted a significant financial burden and allowed me to focus more on my education and future. More importantly, it reminds me that my efforts and aspirations are recognized and supported. I am sincerely grateful for this generosity and hope to one day extend the same encouragement and support to others pursuing their dreams.
